The Royal Mile

Dating back to the 12th century this world-famous, bustling cobbled street stretches from Edinburgh Castle, sitting on its mighty volcanic rock, down to the Palace of Holyrood. Lined with stunning layers of architecture, explore its many lanes hiding architectural gems like the Writer’s Museum, or stunning views down to the Scott Monument and the Firth of Forth beyond.  During the Edinburgh Festival the Royal Mile is packed with performers and although undeniably a tourist spot you will also find many independent eateries, pubs and coffee shops. 

Head down winding, cobbled Cockburn Street for your morning coffee fix at our very favourite coffee shop The Milkman; take a long, lazy lunch at the Outsider with its stunning light and views of the Castle; and round off the day with a warming whisky by the fireside at the Jolly Judge.
